Seaview School with Binder installed wins 2010 Carbon Trust Low Carbon Building Award
Angus Council, were today (9 February 2010) announced as winners of the 2010 Carbon Trust Low Carbon Building Award at the Scottish Energy & Environment Conference (SEEC) held at Hampden Park, Glasgow.
Angus Council won in the new build category for Seaview Primary School in Monifieth, Angus. The award was presented to both organisations by Roseanna Cunningham MSP, Minister for the Environment.
The Low Carbon Building Award has been
specifically designed to acknowledge and applaud the success of
organisations in Scotland in designing and building low carbon
buildings, which provide exemplars for others to adopt.
Wood Energy Ltd installed a 250kW automated state of the art Binder biomass boiler which was described at the awards as an exemplar use of renewable sources of energy to minimise the carbon footprint of the development.
The judges rigorously assessed each application against a range of strict criteria including genuine innovation, carbon saving potential, novel application and commercial potential.
The Carbon Trust is an independent company set up in 2001 by Government in response to the threat of climate change, to accelerate the move to a low carbon economy by working with organisations to reduce carbon emissions and develop commercial low carbon technologies.
